What’s your legacy? What will you leave behind?

The years go by so quickly and we can’t imagine it until we have our own children, it seems. We watch them grow and change from month to month and it never slows down. I ran across this project by photographer Zed Nelson where he took this family and photographed them for 30 years and you can see year after year the changes of the mother, father, and child. Its surreal really to watch someone’s life just pass them by. Each day, they were doing life as usual and nothing seemed different but when they looked at the photos it was almost hard for them to imagine having been in that place. It’s easy to forget each day as it ends.

This quote from the family in the project got me. Tears and all. The father said, “Very likely there will be a photograph with one person missing, then two, and Eddie will be without his parents on that familiar backdrop.

“Scanning 30 years of your own life, it certainly stirs up feelings of mortality,” says Frank. “But I suppose we’ll just keep going with the photographs for as long as we can, till one or both of us falls by the wayside.”

How many times have we lost loved ones and so many moments we can’t get back? Why didn’t we just take the photos when we had the chance? There is something to be said for taking the time to just dress up, hire a professional, and take the photos. Those photos will be worth more than gold to you and your loved ones some day.
